It’s official—September 22nd is the 1st ever World Perimenopause Awareness Day! Brought to you by Perry and the National Menopause Foundation. This historic initiative aims to raise awareness about the often misunderstood phase of (peri)menopause.
Here are a few key facts to know:
It can start earlier than you think
Perimenopause typically begins in women in their 40s, but it can start as early as the mid-30s and last until menopause, which usually occurs around age 51.
Your hormones fluctuate significantly
During perimenopause, estrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate significantly, leading to irregular menstrual cycles and a variety of symptoms.
Symptoms vary among women
Symptoms can include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and changes in libido. The intensity and frequency of these symptoms vary widely among women.
It often manifests emotionally
Perimenopause can significantly impact emotional wellbeing, leading to mood swings, anxiety, and depression. These emotional changes are often linked to hormonal fluctuations and life stressors.
